Corticosteroids

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid, meaning it's similar to a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It's usually used to replace this chemical when your body doesn't make enough. It relieves inflammation (swelling, warmth, redness, and pain) and is used to treat certain forms of arthritis; skin, blood, kidney, eye, thyroid, and bowel disorders (e.g., colitis); severe allergies; and asthma. Dexamethasone is also used to treat certain types of cancer.

Dexamethasone 8 mg/ml injectable solution: Treatment of cerebral edema secondary to brain tumors, head trauma, neurosurgery, brain abscesses, or bacterial meningitis. Treatment of traumatic shock. Treatment of severe acute asthma or status asthmaticus. Initial parenteral treatment of severe acute extensive dermatological diseases such as erythroderma, pemphigus vulgaris, or acute eczema. Initial parenteral treatment of active phases of collagenoses such as systemic lupus erythematosus, especially visceral forms. Treatment of severe infectious diseases (e.g., typhoid fever, brucellosis, tuberculosis), only as adjunctive therapy to appropriate anti-infective therapy. Prophylaxis and treatment of nausea and vomiting induced by cytostatics and after surgical interventions within the context of antiemetic regimens. Short-term adjunctive treatment during acute episodes or exacerbations of rheumatic diseases. Dexamethasone 40 mg/5 ml injectable solution: Treatment of cerebral edema secondary to brain tumors and head trauma. Treatment of traumatic shock. Treatment of anaphylactic shock (as post-primary epinephrine injection therapy).
